Since I have been in this industry for almost 10 years, I have noticed a trend in Californian businesses. It seems like a lot of employers just hire anyone off the street. They need to be more cautious on who they hire. I know there are laws that prevent employers from asking certain questions, but be creative, and most importantly, do your homework.
One major issue I have seen is the hiring of illegal immigrants with fake social security cards. First, it is against the law to hire illegal immigrants, so check the social cards and their numbers. Make sure they check out.
I have had to investigate many claims, and process hundreds of thousands of dollars in benefits to illegal workers, when, if the employer had done their homework, they never should have hired these people in the first place.
I’m not saying that there are not good illegal immigrants, but there are right ways about coming into this country and obtaining employment. Why go through the headache of dealing with I.N.S. if you don’t have to. There are plenty of people out there willing to the work you are asking for. Plus, if you do your homework, you can be more sure that you are hiring the right person.
Yes, Accidents do happen, but then there are those people that make it their job to be on workers compensation because it is free money. We call them career claimants.

I am a workers compensation insurance adjuster in Los Angeles. I have been an adjuster for almost 10years now. I have had the opportunity to work on workers compensation claims in other states, and I tell you, California has it all wrong. Our system sucks. The liberalists in this state run the workers compensation system. They could care less who is at fault. If a claim is made, no matter how stupid, or how minor, the insurance company has the burden to prove that the injury is non-industrial. And then, if it is proven to be non-industrial, if the person that claimed to be injured had treated, with the so called Chiropractors (who in themselves are crooks, we will talk about them I another posting), or any other treatment, the insurance company has to settle all those outstanding balances. That is so wrong. If you are driving on the freeway, and see a wreck, do you pay directly out of your pocket? No. But the liberalists in the workers compensation system say that the insurance companies have deep pockets, so they should still have to pay. Don’t make the little everyday worker pay. I hate this mentality. If someone lies about being injured, then they should have to pay every last cent that they incurred.
One good event that has taken place in this state in the past coupe of years is Arnold Schwarzenegger. He is the first person that has given some control back to the business community. Since he himself is a businessman, he realizes the impact that workers compensation insurance has on everyday business.
I will fight for the full support of Arnold. Even though I want out of this damn industry, I support all that Arnold has done. I just hope that he does not bend over in front of the liberalists.
